Wrapped Bitcoin at a Crypto Casino: WBTC, mWBTC and Native BTC

Wrapped Bitcoin at a crypto casino explained: how WBTC, mWBTC and native BTC differ on networks, fees and trust, what changed for WBTC in 2024, and how to pick a deposit route.

Wrapped Bitcoin at a Crypto Casino: WBTC, mWBTC and Native BTC

Bitcoin can reach a casino cashier in more than one form. Native BTC travels on the Bitcoin network, while Wrapped Bitcoin, or WBTC, moves on Ethereum and other chains as a token backed by BTC held with a custodian.

Both track Bitcoin's price, yet they differ on fees, networks, trust, and the unit a cashier shows. Some casinos also display them in thousandths, as mBTC and mWBTC.

Below: the three ways Bitcoin reaches a cashier, how a wrapped token works, what changed for WBTC in 2024, and how to choose a route for a deposit.

Each row needs its own deposit address. Bitcoin addresses accept only native BTC, and Ethereum addresses accept only Ethereum tokens.

How a Wrapped Token Works

WBTC launched in January 2019 as an ERC-20 token backed 1:1 by Bitcoin. Approved merchants send BTC to a custodian, which mints the same amount of WBTC on Ethereum. To exit, a merchant burns WBTC, and the custodian releases the BTC.

That design brings Bitcoin's value into Ethereum apps, from loan platforms to casino cashiers. It also adds a trust layer: the token holds value only while the custodian keeps the reserves and honours redemptions.

What Changed for WBTC in 2024

BitGo, WBTC's long-time custodian, announced in August 2024 a move to shared custody with BiT Global, a firm linked to Justin Sun. The change worried part of the market, and Coinbase delisted WBTC later that year after a court declined to block the move.

Rival wrapped tokens gained ground in the same period, among them Coinbase's cbBTC and Threshold's tBTC. WBTC still trades widely, and its reserves remain open to public checks, yet the episode showed that wrapped Bitcoin depends on the people behind it as well as on code.

Wrapped Versus Native: What Changes for a Player

Trust

Native BTC needs trust in the Bitcoin network alone. WBTC adds a custodian and a set of merchants, so a problem at that layer can affect the token even while Bitcoin itself works normally.

Cost and Speed

New Bitcoin blocks appear roughly six times an hour, and fees climb whenever demand for block space jumps. WBTC on Ethereum costs gas in ETH, which can make small deposits expensive. Chains such as Sui usually charge far less per transfer.

Network Match

Wrapped tokens trip up new users the same way bridged stablecoins do. Our piece on bridged USDC confusion explains why a familiar ticker on the wrong chain can vanish.

Price Peg

WBTC normally trades within a fraction of a percent of BTC. Under stress, a wrapped token can drift from the BTC behind it, so a cashier balance in WBTC holds a small extra layer of risk.

Milli-Units on the Cashier Screen

Cashiers often quote Bitcoin in mBTC, worth 0.001 BTC, so small balances look like whole numbers. The same logic gives mWBTC for wrapped Bitcoin.

Twenty-five mWBTC equals 0.025 WBTC, and a withdrawal typed in the wrong unit can come out a thousand times off. Our mBTC explainer covers the unit habits in depth.

Bitcoin Options at Dexsport

Dexsport lists all three forms. Native Bitcoin appears as mBTC on the Bitcoin network, wrapped Bitcoin as mWBTC on Ethereum, and a WBTC option on Sui, among 56 assets across 26 networks.

Minimums apply per coin and per network and follow a US dollar figure. Withdrawals also wait on clause 4.2.5 of the terms: stake the deposit once on sports bets priced 1.3 or above, or twice in casino play, and leave Cash Out settlements out of the tally.

Anjouan licenses the operator, Dexapp LTD. Asset lists shift over time, so recheck the Bitcoin options on the deposit screen each time.

Conclusion

Native BTC, WBTC on Ethereum and WBTC on other chains all follow Bitcoin's price, but each travels on its own network with its own fee coin and deposit address. Wrapped versions add a custodian, and the 2024 custody change at WBTC showed why that layer deserves attention.

Milli-units add one more detail to watch, since mBTC and mWBTC count in thousandths. Match the form, the network and the unit before every transfer.
