F1 2026 Title Race: What Prediction Markets Say About the Championship

Antonelli leads the 2026 F1 championship by 81 points with nine rounds left, and prediction markets price him near 91%. The maths behind the price and what could change it.

F1 2026 Title Race: What Prediction Markets Say About the Championship

Kimi Antonelli heads into Baku with an 81-point lead and nine rounds left. Prediction markets price the Mercedes driver as a near-certain champion, and the arithmetic explains why.

F1 championship prediction markets sell Yes or No shares on each driver to win the 2026 title, priced in cents as a probability. Once the FIA confirms the champion, shares on that driver pay out a dollar each and shares on the rest of the grid lose their value.

Below are the standings, what the points left allow and what could still move the price before the finale on 6 December.

Season Snapshot After 14 Rounds

The 2026 rules brought new power units with far more electric output, active aerodynamics and reworked chassis, and Mercedes adapted first.

Antonelli also became the youngest championship leader in Formula 1 history in Japan, at 19 years and 216 days. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix, round 15, takes place on Saturday 26 September, moved from its usual Sunday slot.

Points Arithmetic Behind an 81-Point Lead

Points drive the whole question, so the scale comes first: 25 for a win, 18 for second, 15 for third, down to one point for tenth, with eight for a sprint win.

  • Russell must outscore Antonelli by 82 or more across the nine rounds left, roughly nine points per weekend on average

  • Even a perfect Russell run can fall short. If Russell wins every race left and Antonelli ends second each time, the lead shrinks by only 63 points, plus a point or two from the sprint

  • Retirements change everything. One scoreless weekend for Antonelli hands Russell up to 25 points at once, as Silverstone showed when a late problem dropped the leader to 16th

  • Hamilton needs a collapse from both Mercedes drivers, and the Ferrari driver has all but conceded the title himself

The maths explains the market. Russell needs Antonelli to lose points in several races, not just one, and Mercedes' pace makes a string of poor results unlikely.

Championship Probability Below 100%

Dexsport's board priced Antonelli at around 91% in mid-September. The other 9% reflects the ways a season can still turn.

Reliability heads the list. New power units in the first year of a rules cycle bring more risk of failure than mature designs, and one failure costs a full race of points. Collisions, penalties and weather add further uncertainty over nine rounds.

Priced at 91%, the market sees a small but real chance of a twist, which sportsbooks express as short Drivers' Championship odds on Antonelli and long odds on everyone else.

Each round shifts that figure. If Russell won in Baku while Antonelli retired, the lead would fall to 56 points with about 208 still available.

The price would then drop sharply, even though Antonelli would remain the clear favourite. Different odds across platforms can reflect the same view with a different margin built in.

The F1 Title Market on Dexsport

Dexsport offers an F1 prediction market on the 2026 Drivers' Championship among its motorsport questions, where the market had passed $13 million in volume by mid-September. It closes on 6 December, the day of the finale.

Across Dexsport prediction markets, every driver on the grid has a line of their own, payouts come in stablecoins, and the page states which result decides the market and by when. Its sportsbook adds race-level motorsport markets as well, which puts the season question and single Grands Prix under the same login.

Season-long positions tie up funds until December, so a tournament bankroll held in stablecoins keeps its value steady while the market plays out. The operator works under an Anjouan licence; reread the market rules before each new position.

Conclusion

Antonelli leads the 2026 championship by 81 points with 233 still available, and prediction markets price him at around 91% to become champion.

Even a flawless run from Russell cannot close that lead alone, since second place for Antonelli each weekend would still keep the Italian ahead. The open question is reliability: one or two scoreless weekends would reopen the fight.
