Cronos Labs is enhancing its cross-blockchain connectivity through a new partnership with LayerZero, a leading protocol for blockchain interoperability. This collaboration will streamline cross-chain transactions for both Cronos EVM and Cronos zkEVM.
Now live on mainnet and testnet, this integration empowers developers to create blockchain bridges, enable token movements, and build applications that link Cronos users to diverse blockchain environments supported by LayerZero, including networks like Ethereum, Solana, and other EVM-compatible systems.
"Cross-chain interoperability has been integral to the Cronos project from the start. Considering the significant security and liquidity issues tied to crypto industry fragmentation, Cronos Labs is tackling this priority with care and resolve. By 2025, we anticipate much stronger ties between crypto initiatives and traditional finance. The LayerZero integration is a step towards achieving that." — Ken Timsit, Managing Director of Cronos Labs
This milestone opens the door for numerous applications to leverage LayerZero, expanding their reach to Cronos users. It is anticipated to enhance interoperability for all Cronos users, providing access to billions of dollars in crypto assets securely held on Cronos.
The integration enhances cross-chain asset transfers between Cronos EVM, the Cosmos SDK ecosystem, and other EVM-compatible blockchains. Concurrently, Cronos EVM retains its compatibility with the Cosmos SDK ecosystem via the Inter Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol.
Cronos zkEVM, the first Elastic Chain (layer 2) to go live on the mainnet within the ZKSync Era framework, will continue to capitalize on native Ethereum bridging with over ten other Elastic chains. This expansion allows users to perform quicker cross-blockchain transfers across a spectrum of layer 1 and layer 2 networks.
"Cronos zkEVM is among the first Elastic Chains LayerZero is expanding to, which is thrilling, as the essence of interoperability is connecting different chain types. Looking forward to seeing the innovations that arise here!" — Bryan Pellegrino, CEO of LayerZero Labs
At present, the LayerZero integration primarily targets developers, with future updates planned to enhance end-user experiences, including the forthcoming CRO / zkCRO token bridge between Cronos EVM and Cronos zkEVM.
New cross-blockchain bridging options will be offered as third-party links on official Cronos bridge portals, accessible at cronos.org/bridge for Cronos EVM and zkevmcronos.org/bridge for Cronos zkEVM.
Cronos Labs remains dedicated to aiding developers interested in utilizing LayerZero’s technology for a variety of groundbreaking applications. These include cross-chain prediction markets, real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, synthetic asset trading platforms, cross-chain lending protocols, and staking solutions.
