The BEP-2 retirement took effect when BNB Beacon Chain stopped producing blocks on 19 November 2024. Two years later, there is still a recovery tool running; it is closing in stages, and as of now it is in its final and slowest phase.
If you have never touched BEP-2, this is a short history lesson. If you have old tokens sitting somewhere, it is a deadline.
The Recovery Tool Timeline
The tool that lets holders move stranded BEP-2 assets to BNB Smart Chain is sunsetting in three stages.
|
Phase |
Period |
What it means |
|
Phase 1 |
Through 30 April 2026 |
Requests processed within a seven-day service level |
|
Phase 2 |
1 May to 30 June 2026 |
Batch processing, service level up to one month |
|
Phase 3 |
From 1 July 2026 |
Manual handling and user transaction signing, longest waits |
We are in Phase 3. Recovery is still possible and it now requires manual processing and considerably more patience than it did six months ago.
The BEP299 recovery tool arrived on 3 December 2024, introduced after the chain had already stopped, specifically to give stranded holders a route out.
Recovery Eligibility
The eligibility rule is unforgiving and worth reading twice.
Only mirrored tokens qualify: BEP-2 assets previously mirrored to BEP-20 equivalents on BNB Smart Chain. Tokens that were never mirrored cannot be recovered through the tool, and there is no alternative route.
Compounding that, permissionless mirroring under BEP84 has been permanently disabled and will not be re-enabled. So a token that missed the window cannot be mirrored now to become eligible. The door did not close temporarily.
If your tokens were not mirrored before the shutdown, the honest answer is that they are gone.
Reasons Behind the Retirement
Worth a paragraph, because the reasoning explains the current landscape.
BNB originally ran two chains: Beacon Chain for governance and staking, and Smart Chain for applications and smart contracts. Maintaining both meant duplicated security, duplicated tooling and a bridge between them that added complexity and attack surface.
The BNB Chain Fusion plan consolidated everything into BNB Smart Chain. One chain, one token standard, fewer ways for assets to end up somewhere unintended. That is a sensible engineering decision and it stranded anyone who was not paying attention, which is the usual cost of consolidation.
Beware the Recovery Scams
This part deserves emphasis for a casino audience specifically, because the overlap is exact.
BNB Chain has warned users against third-party recovery companies, noting that fraudulent schemes targeting token holders appeared as soon as the shutdown was announced.
The pattern is familiar: a stressed holder with locked assets, a service promising to unlock them, and a request for wallet access or an upfront payment.
A legitimate recovery requires connecting a Beacon Chain wallet, such as BNB Chain Wallet or Trust Wallet Extension, to the official portal, then providing a BNB Smart Chain receiving address that holds BNB to cover gas.
Nobody needs your recovery phrase to do this, and any service asking for one is stealing from you.
Crypto casino players see the same playbook in a different costume, and the warning signs travel across contexts.
What Changes at a Casino Cashier
The practical part, and it is simpler than the history suggests.
A cashier listing BNB today means BEP-20. There is no live BEP-2 option anywhere.
Any guide still presenting a choice between the two is stale enough that you should distrust the rest of it as well.
The live deposit risk is network selection, not token standard:
-
BNB and BNB-chain tokens exist across multiple networks, and a cashier generates a different address for each
-
Choose wrong and funds land at an address the operator may hold no key for
-
That loss is permanent, with no recovery tool of any kind
Dexsport runs a multi-coin, multi-network cashier and adds nothing above the network fee, so a BEP-20 deposit costs what the chain charges. Being non-custodial, settled play returns to a wallet you hold instead of accumulating with the operator. Anjouan licence, lighter than Curacao or Malta.
On BNB Smart Chain the deposit itself is inexpensive, which makes a small test transfer almost free and worth doing on any platform you have not used before. Which wallets a platform supports determines how straightforward that first transfer is.
Two Actions Worth Taking
Short, and they apply to different readers.
If you hold old BEP-2 assets that were mirrored, start the recovery now through the official portal. Phase 3 is slow and it is still open, and nothing about waiting improves the outcome.
For anyone simply depositing BNB at a casino, select BEP-20, generate the address fresh in the same session, and confirm the network matches in both your wallet and the cashier before sending.
Confirm what is legal where you live, keep stakes within a set budget, and play only if you are of legal age, since KYC or AML checks may apply.
Responsible gambling sits outside all of this, and the one connection worth drawing is that recovered funds arriving unexpectedly can feel like found money, which is exactly the framing that makes them easy to lose.
