Crypto.com’s Nadex Registers for Single-Stock Futures as It Pursues U.S. Stock Perpetuals

Crypto.com’s Nadex has effective SEC registration to trade security futures, creating a venue-level path but not approving any single-stock contract.

Crypto.com’s Nadex Registers for Single-Stock Futures as It Pursues U.S. Stock Perpetuals

Crypto.com’s Nadex became registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as a national securities exchange solely for trading security futures products on Sept. 16, after the agency acknowledged its Form 1-N notice. The registration took effect when Nadex submitted written notice, giving the venue a regulatory path to trade the specified category of products but not approval for any individual single-stock futures contract.

The SEC filing identifies Nadex as North American Derivatives Exchange, Inc., doing business as Crypto.com Derivatives North America. Nadex submitted its Form 1-N notice two days earlier, on Sept. 14.

SEC makes Nadex security-futures registration effective

In its Sept. 16 notice, the SEC said it had received Nadex’s registration under Section 6(g) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 as a national securities exchange for the limited purpose of trading security futures products.

The underlying Form 1-N filing names the operator as North American Derivatives Exchange, Inc. and lists Crypto.com Derivatives North America as its business name. The effective status is venue-level: it establishes Nadex’s registration for security futures rather than authorizing a particular instrument to begin trading.

Registration does not clear a single-stock contract

The SEC action concerns the exchange’s registration status for the defined security-futures product category, rather than an initial listing or launch. According to Unchained, the Form 1-N registration does not approve a specific contract for trading, including a single-stock futures product, and any security-futures product would require its own listing standards and contract terms before launch. The action does not set a trading date or identify the stocks that could underpin future contracts.

Stock perpetuals are a separate U.S. regulatory effort

Crypto.com Chief Executive Kris Marszalek has separately said the company is working with the SEC and Commodity Futures Trading Commission to offer U.S. single-stock perpetuals. That effort is distinct from Nadex’s security-futures registration, Crypto.news reported.

The available disclosures do not provide a launch date for either single-stock futures on Nadex or stock perpetuals in the U.S.
