MultiversX’s published Supernova activation calendar schedules the Supernova upgrade for mainnet activation on September 10, 2026, at epoch 2233 and round 32,157,661, or 18:05 UTC.

According to the calendar, the scheduled change would replace MultiversX’s current six-second block cadence with a 600-millisecond interval, a tenfold reduction in block time, while targeting finality below 250 milliseconds.

September 10 activation sets a 600ms block target

Supernova’s activation is tied to a specified epoch and round rather than only a calendar date, giving validators and network participants a defined point for the mainnet configuration change. According to MultiversX, epoch 2233 begins the upgrade at 18:05 UTC on September 10.

The most immediate intended effect is faster block production. A reduction from six seconds to 600 milliseconds means blocks are designed to arrive ten times more frequently. MultiversX is also targeting finality in less than 250ms, a measure distinct from block cadence: it concerns how quickly a transaction can be considered settled under the protocol’s rules.

Those figures are targets for the post-upgrade network, not measured mainnet results before activation. The published schedule does not provide a mainnet throughput commitment, and the available testing figures were generated before the planned production rollout.

Consensus-before-execution design underpins the finality target

MultiversX’s MIP-27 Supernova proposal estimates finality at roughly 100ms to 250ms, compared with the calendar’s sub-250ms target.

The estimate rests on a change in execution order. Supernova separates consensus from transaction execution, allowing validators to propose and vote on blocks before execution takes place; the lower-latency objective is therefore tied to consensus preceding execution rather than simply to a shorter block-production timer.

Consistent mainnet performance has not yet been established by the pre-launch material. The material describes the planned architecture and reported test activity, while results after the scheduled switch will depend on live network operation.

Testnet, devnet and Battle of Nodes supplied pre-mainnet evidence

MultiversX said Supernova had operated on both testnet and devnet using 600ms block intervals. Its Supernova builders page says devnet activated that configuration on August 20, 2026, ahead of the scheduled mainnet event.

An independent report from AI News Crypto, published August 26, said Supernova was live on testnet before the September 10 activation, targeting approximately 600ms blocks and 100ms-to-250ms in-shard finality.

In its April 2026 State of the Foundation Report, the MultiversX Foundation said the Battle of Nodes testing campaign processed more than 1 billion transactions and demonstrated 120,000 transactions per second while Supernova was being prepared for mainnet. The 120,000-transactions-per-second figure was a reported test demonstration, not a forecast for everyday mainnet throughput after September 10; together, the testnet and devnet deployments and Battle of Nodes results form the disclosed pre-mainnet record behind MultiversX’s planned move to sub-second block intervals.
